The Ultimate Triangle Garland--FREE Pattern!

Hey Lovlies!
I was in search of the perfect crochet triangle the other day. I was planning on making a garland with some hand-dyed yarn I had in my stash that I'd totally forgotten about! But to my surprise, there weren't any that really sparked my interest. So, since I kinda had a vision of what it would look like, I made up my own. And I must say, crochet triangles are harder than they appear. But, I prevailed! Here's the Ultimate Crochet Triangle pattern... :)

(Pay attention to the things marked in turquoise. The corners change a little every round, so I marked it to make sure you picked up on that)

Use

Ch 4, join w/ a sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch) do 15 dc in ring. Join w/ sl st to first dc.

Round 2: Ch 3 (Beginning chain counts as stitch here and for the rest of the pattern), do 1dc in same stitch, ch 1, do 2 dc in same stitch, do 1dc in each of the next 4 sts, *2dc, ch1, 2dc in next stitch, do 1dc in each of the next 4 sts.* Repeat from *to* until you reach the initial ch3. Join with a sl st.

Round 3: Ch 2, do 1hdc in next st. *2 dc, ch 2, 2dc in ch1 space, 1hdc in next 2 sts, 1sc in next 4sts, 1hdc in next 2sts*. Repeat from *to* until you have 4 sts left. work 1sc in each of those 4 sts. Join with a sl st.

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in ch2 space, *dc in next 12 sts, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in ch2 space* Repeat from *to* until you have 8 sts left. Work 1dc in next 8 sts, join with a sl st. Finish off.

To join into a garland, sc in each stitch along the top of each triangle and chain what you wish in between each motif.

  7. Thank you for this pattern. I searched high and low for an easy-to-understand pattern (I just started crocheting again in December after a long hiatus)and this one is perfect. I'm making crocheted bunting for my wedding reception. :)

  8. I don't understand round 3. I don't have that many stitches in between my ch1's. Please help. I would love to be able to use this triangle in my afghan!

    1. Hello Kayla!

Let's see... in round one the stitch count should be 15 stitches. Round two should have 24 double crochets and 3 chain spaces. 8 doubles on each side and a chain space on the corners. This is because you made the corners 'pointy' by making a "2dc, ch1, 2dc" three times seperated by 4 double crochets to make the flat sides. On Round 3 you are using your 8 double crochets that are on each side and putting stitches into them. You are also putting even more stitches into the chain spaces of round two in order to make the triangle pointy.
"1hdc in next two stitches, 1sc in next 4 stitches, 1hdc in next two stitches"
      2 + 4 + 2 = 8
You should have 8 available stitches from round two to work into.
I hope this helps! If all else fails, go through the pattern again watching every word, I'm sure you'll get it!
Let me know if you have any more questions!

  10. I was just wondering how big the triangles are when you are done with them I would like to use your pattern to make a triangle pillow but I need them kind of good sized.

    1. Hey Samantha!
They're about 5 inches or so. You could always use a larger yarn and hook to make it slightly bigger, but I'd just suggest just adding extra rows. To do that, you'd put 3dc, ch2, 3dc in the corner spaces and just dc across the edges.
Let me know if you have trouble, I'd be happy to write up the technical pattern for ya :)
      Have a great day,
      Grace

    1. Hey Samantha!! No problem! Here ya go:
Round 5-as many rounds as you want: Ch 3, dc across to next chain space, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in ch2 space, *dc across to next ch space, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in ch2 space* Repeat from *to* twice. Dc across remaining sts, join with a sl st.
There ya go! I'm pretty sure this will work out for you. If not, just let me know! :)
      Happy crocheting!
      Grace
